August 6th Celebration of International Day of the World's Indigenous People!

Join us in Panajachel at the Oxlajuj B'atz' Maya Women's Center & Fair Trade Store! We'll be celebrating all day with a forum on issues important to Guatemalan indigenous people in the upcoming elections, traditional dancing, typical food, product demonstrations and much more! This event is free and open to the public!

10:30 am – Forum with Experts panelists
The Importance of Indigenous Guatemalans in the 2011 Elections

9:00 am to 4:00 pm – Demonstrations of Guatemalan Tradition
Medicinal plants
Live marimba music and traditional dance
Regional Traje dress from 10 towns
Tortilla-making with free samples
Linguistic map of Mayan languages
Corn varieties and uses
And more!

9:00 am – 6:00 pm – Fair Trade Store

11:00 am – 6:00 pm – Typical Guatemalan food for sale
