Long term rental in San Pedro la Laguna

Postby Ricardo » Tue May 20, 2008 11:00 am

Anybody know of a quiet place in San Pedro, other than a hotel, that is (or will be) available for rent for an extended period of time? Something with a view, cable, internet, kitchen, private and fairly cheap would be ideal. Isolated is OK if it's within Tuc-Tuc range. I'm looking to stay for at least a year or possibly more if I like it. Currently living in Xela but really miss the lake and the warmer climate.
Any suggestions will be appreciated.
Thanks
Ricardo

There was a home being advertised right on the lake on the same street as Johannas supermercado and Lole's place. It was near Hotel del Lago I think. It had everything on your list, but I don't know the rent. The place I lived did not have internet or TV but I think there was a pay internet signal that you could subscribe to that reached the house, never tracked it down. Im sure TV is possible bc the neighbors seemed to have it. Message me privately and I can send the phone number. Rent was $100 for 2 weeks or $200 a month. The house was around 500 feet from lago Atitlan and Zoola.

I would recommend going there and getting a hotel for a week or two. You will then be able to see for yourself what’s available. In gringo town everyone knows everyone. Once they see you are not a tourist and are going to be there for a while then they will be very friendly and will help you out with anything you need. Places in 2009 were going for $80 to $200 a month. I don’t see how that could of change too much. Hotels rage for $4 to $15 a night. This is the cheapest place to live that I have ever found.
Try to find a place that’s that not to close to the hills with a hurricane season here if they get another one (and it’s still very early) expect mudslides with big rocks falling, roads closed, and shortages of food and water. I was there last year during hurricane season and there were no problems, and I will be back in September for this one too. It’s better to be prepared keep a 2 weeks supply of food and water and don’t live to close to the hills.
